Dealing with difficult customers is a bit different than relating to peers and family members. There is a tradition in the United States that “The customer is always right,” even when obviously wrong and, sometimes, out of line. Here, we will explore this writer’s ideas on how to deal with such people.

ImageMost people in today’s work world will, sooner or later, find themselves in a server / client relationship. Obviously, the roles on both sides are far different than when dealing with a neighbor or family member. It is essential that you, the server, understand your role. It is for you to accommodate your customer. For the most part, the customer is not responsible to accommodate you. Knowing and accepting your role will give you the proper mindset and make it easier for you to do business with those who seem determined to make your life miserable.
